It’s common to hear and believe that healthy relationships are give and take rather than both parties giving and receiving reciprocally for mutual benefit.
Narcissistic relationships benefit the person who is gaining at the expense of the other, because the taker feels entitled and believes they’re being generous when they give the giver attention. This is what I consider a give and take relationship - one person gives to the other who takes, never the other way around.
